Venom Full Movie Review : The Last Dance is a difficult movie to grapple with. It’s more pure than most superhero projects; it doesn’t care about any other project after it. It lives in its own moment. There is something genuine about it, while never taking itself too seriously. A brief scene involving Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) looking up at the stars is wholesome and well-directed. The entire last sequence is a mess of multicolored goo and explosions, yet it’s the most entertaining of any superhero movie of the year.

Tom Hardy’s voice is off putting throughout the entire movie, but eventually it settles and starts to work. Eddie Brock is an entirely different being from the first two movies, devolving into a character that gets distracted by a dance. It’s a stupid moment, but the third Venom movie isn’t going to offer much in terms of nuance regarding Venom’s character. It shouldn’t. Seeing Eddie and Venom interact is the most entertaining part of the movie. It’s finally clicked, they’re like a healthy and well communicating couple. Nothing else should really be shown, getting these two interacting is the only reason this movie works on any level.

Plotting the entire movie on paper leads to a meaningless task. The Venom movie doesn’t care about its own plot. The B-plot doesn’t work and is underdeveloped. I don’t know if anyone else aside from Tom Hardy knows what kind of movie this is, and that is perfectly okay. Expecting nothing from this aside from a good time is the ideal way to go into this. This method offers the viewer a few moments that surprisingly work really well.

The score for a Venom movie is rather generic, but one moment stands out. I was audibly shocked when visually interesting shots appeared. Seeing Venom use his powers in an interesting way really gives everything ever needed in a movie like this. The Venom franchise finally understands itself, and it’s only taken three movies. There deserves to be more movies in this series. This is Kelly Marcel’s first feature, and it’s not a bad start. She has a clear direction and vision, which the first two movies don’t. It offers one of the best times in the theater this year, and is well worth the money.
